This past weekend Professor Yuri Simoes competed in the Eddie Bravo Invitational (EBI) 6, a submission only event. After winning his first match in overtime via rear naked choke, Yuri faced the fan favorite Garry Tonon. Garry was previously undefeated in EBI competition being crowned the EBI 1, EBI 3 and EBI 5 champion. After ten hard fought minutes no one was declared a winner. In overtime Yuri was able to escape quicker and was declared to winner!
This past weekend concluded the 2016 Pan Jiu Jitsu Championship in Irvine California. Pans is continually the biggest Jiu Jitsu and this year was no exception. From head quarters, Ric Cee, Carlos Capela, Henrique Silva, Benji Silva, Paulo Marins, Ryan Walsh, Kaniela Kahuanui, Renato Tegliari, Kristina Barman, Ken Primola, Vitor Paschal and Yuri Simons made the trip.
This year we are proud to announce our 4th annual Pans camp! Starting February 29th and running to March 16th this looks to be our best camp EVER! With more world champions at every belt level than ever before, like two time black belt pans champion and 2014 adcc world champion Yuri Simoes you’re sure to get some amazing training. Not to mention competition training will be directed by 10 time world champion Caio Terra! Hope to see you there, space is limited so reserve your spot early!
This past weekend was the 2016 San Jose Open. After a very long two days our team came home with first place in both the gi and no gi divisions. This would not have been possible with out the sacrifice of so many people. From the affiliates who flew in early for our annual association camp, to their families who supported and believed in them, to everyone at our Academy. Great job guys!
Two weeks ago marked the end of the 2016 European open championship. This is the first major of 2016 and I couldn’t be happier with everyones performance. This is the 3rd year I made over for the Europeans and it’s amazing to see the growth of the sport. As a competitor I captured my 3rd European title, but more importantly I got an opportunity to test my spirit. In the final, I hurt my rib early and it really bothered me. At one point I wasn’t so concerned with winning or losing but trying to finish the match. Great job Koji, you always push everyone to be better and I’m glad to have competed against you all these years!
As 2015 comes to a close I spent some time reflecting on the year and what a year it has been!
When we started our association 3 years ago I always knew a reorganization was coming. It’s very hard to ask people to be a part of something they do not believe in, and in 2015 we were able to resolve our differences.
A black belt is major mile stone for both student and teacher. It’s always extra special for the instructor when that student also started their journey with them and you get to see them progress on and off the mat. Huge congrats to Chuong Son on the Faixa Preta, keep training, Jiu Jitsu only gets better. Also huge congrats to Professor Jay Pages, on guiding Chuong from white to black, that truly is a great achievement!!

This has been an incredible year for both Jay Pages BJJ and MMA as well as the Strong Heart academy and there was no better way to end it then at the 2015 masters cup.
