This past weekend Mason Fowler, made his 8th title defense at Submission Underground (SUG) against Gabriel "Zangief" Checco. After a tough 5 minutes of regulation, the match headed to overtime.In the 2nd overtime round, Mason submitted Checco by RNC to retain his Submission Underground title.
Mason is now 12-0 in submission underground and has the record for most title defenses at 8. Next up for Mason is the ADCC west coast trials, then a long anticipated match with SUG tournament winner Kyle Boehm.
Also on the card was CTA black belt, Kaniela Kahuanui (KK). Kaniela was out for some time with a knee injury and it was great to see him returning to competition once again. In his match he was able to submit his opponent via arm bar in OT to move to 4-0 in SUG. Never satisfied, Kaniela (also known as double K), looks to keep improving, evolving and hopes to be back in the SUG octagon by the end of the year!
