Ōkami Fighter Brotherhood & Sisterhood is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy located in the Las Águilas neighborhood of Mexico City. Ōkami opened it’s doors in March of 2018, and was founded by Jorge Pastor and Juan Pablo de Tavira. Professor Pastor has been training Jiu-Jitsu for almost a decade and received his black belt in 2016. He is also a seven-time National Champion in Mexico.
A Bigger Purpose
After years of training and seeing the positive changes Jiu-Jitsu afforded him, Professor Pastor began teaching in 2014. In that same year he walked away from a lucrative job to live his dream and dedicate his life to teaching Jiu-Jitsu full-time. Jiu-Jitsu changed his life in so many ways – giving him a purpose – and he wanted to share that purpose and meaning with as many other people as possible.
Professor Pastor founded Ōkami with the intention of it being more than just another Jiu-Jitsu academy. With Ōkami, Professor Pastor wanted to be a positive force for change in the lives of his students and the world at large. On top of teaching Jiu-Jitsu, with a focus on the ethics of the martial arts, he also wanted to spread an ethic of stewardship and respect for human and animal communities, including the natural world.
Environmental ethics are very important to Professor Pastor, and as a result Ōkami uses no plastic bottles, plastic bags, leather training equipment, and utilizes no products that have been tested on animals. Professor Pastor believes that leading by example is the best way to teach others that it is possible to live a cruelty-free life, and to reduce the impact that we have on the earth and its inhabitants.
Joining CTA
Professor Pastor has always been a huge fan of Professor Caio and his philosophy of Jiu-Jitsu. Seeing Professor Caio spread his positive message of changing lives through Jiu-Jitsu and leading by example with a humble and respectful character, Professor Pastor recognized a true leader. Professor Pastor saw joining CTA as a natural progression in his Jiu-Jitsu journey, joining a growing association of people who are committed to community ethics and a One Team philosophy.
Professor Pastor contacted CTA in July of 2018 with the intention of joining our association. We determined that he would be a great fit. With a similar community and family-focused ethics and philosophy we felt that Professor Pastor, Juan Pablo, and Ōkami would be a great addition to the CTA family.
