“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” ~ Collin Powell.
This past weekend, our team went down too the ADCC trials and all of our hard work, and sacrificed paid off. Bringing a team of 10 athletes we took home a total of 11 medals with 3 people: Manny, Queixinho and Samir, earning their tickets to the ADCC Pro!
What I was most excited about wasn’t any one individual medal, although I am VERY happy for every one who won, if no one won I wouldn’t be any prouder. As a team we prepared well and sacrificed for each other. From Benji and Kaniela who unselfishly helped push Anthony and others in training, to Vitor who ran the comp classes when asked. This weekend’s success truly was a team effort. In the end that effort was rewarded as we also were took home the 2nd place team trophy.
For those who think we are all about “sport jiu jitsu” or “winning” or what ever that means, that couldn’t be further from the truth. We are about Jiu Jitsu. I am often asked am I successful because I didn’t make the same mistake twice to which I always reply no, I am successful because I made the same mistake so many times that I knew for certain it was a mistake, and through Jiu Jitsu I found a way to solve my problem. This lesson is an important one, it doesn’t matter how many times you fail as long as you learn each time and keep trying to get better. Congrats again to the team, lets never stop learning, evolving, and getting better on and off the mats
