When Mateus decided to move his life to America, there was no plan B. He was going to be a world champion, whether it happened in 2024 or 2028. He understood that hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and dedication are the prerequisites of being a champion. Even then, nothing is guaranteed, as every match is like a final. He didn't accept this; he embraced it.
This year was his year; from start to finish, he was ahead in every match. When the final was over, we had our 2024 IBJJF Brown belt world champion, and I couldn't be happier for him. What made me even prouder, though, was seeing Tyler, Renato, Rafa, Anaue, Caio, Reedell, Richard, Nick, Bia, Jazzy, Luna, Vu, Grant, and the entire CTA crew cheering each other on, supporting each other and being there for each other. This, more than any champions we produce, is what CTA is all about.
Congrats to everyone who tested themselves, and thanks to everyone who supported them in training. Congratulations again to Mateus on being a world champion and CTA's newest black belt. Can't wait for next year!
