Caio recently visited his Canadian affiliate, Gravity BJJ for the second time this year and held the biggest seminar in Vancouver this summer. Over the course of 4 days over 75 people attended!
Day 1 (Thursday) started off informally as Caio rolled with about 10 guys before the start of the seminar. As people strolled into the academy, there was silence as Caio showed why he is often referred to as one of the most technical jiu jitsu players on the planet. At the start of the seminar he went over a series of side control techniques; there was a serene flow from one technique to the other and Caio stressed the importance of learning the concept not just the move.
Everyone left day 1 with a huge excitement of what was to come. The seminar went well over schedule, as Caio spent time answering questions at the end and making sure that every one who came took something away.
The next two Gi days would prove to be even more technical. On Friday, Caio again rolled with a number of guys and girls before the seminar. Caio chose spider guard sweeps as that days theme.
Saturday, was the last day of the camp open to all schools. Instead of starting off the seminar with rolling, Caio chose to have the group of over 60 students surround him as he spoke about his journey into Jiu-Jitsu, his challenges, accomplishments and his philosophy. Most people don’t really get to know Caio on a personal basis, only through seminars and small chats via social media. You can hear a pin drop as the soft spoken Professor captivated his audience and spoke from experience about how he has succeeded in Jiu Jitsu.
The last day of the camp was an association only seminar, which focused on a new guard Caio has been developing. The day ended with a Birthday Gauntlet (a Gravity BJJ tradition) and a special belt ceremony. Many students advanced in stripe and significant belt promotions. Congratulations to all the students that received stripes and to Nick, Jamie, Clay, Mark & Sofie who received their new belts!
The last promotion of the day went to Professor Logan Lidemark. In the 3 years that Gravity BJJ has been open, Logan has dedicated himself to teaching, overseeing students developments and ensuring their growth on and off the mat; he’s on the mats everyday with a great passion for the art. It was a special moment to award Professor Logan his first stripe on his black belt, especially in front of his students.
Can’t wait for the next visit!
