Last weekend was the 2019 IBJJF World Championship held in Long Beach, California. This year the team prepared well and everyone from camp was sharp and ready to go. In the end, Mikey Musumeci, who did his camp in San Jose, made history, winning worlds for the 3rd time and getting the fastest submission in finals history!
Not to be outdone, Tammi Musumeci beat 3 former world champions to take home her first Black Belt world tittle! This was a life time in the making for Tammi and all of her sacrifice, hard work and dedication was finally rewarded.
Also taking home gold was Zandra Fountila, who repeated her performance from 2018. She is now a two time Juvenile world champion!
Professor Caio Terra split time between coaching and competing and unfortunately lost his quarterfinal match by referee decision. For Rudson, Jeremy, Leon, Tomo, Kaniela, Ryan, Benji, Dennis, Nicole, Sade, Robert, Tyler and Eddie their dream will have to wait another year. For Kristina, who fought well in her semi final match she came up short and took home the bronze. Her time will come.
Congrats to everyone who competed, keep working hard and chasing your dreams. In the end its the journey not the results that make us who we are.
